    NOTICE OF VACANCY
     
    FISH MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST
     
    The Warren County Department of Public Works is seeking a Fish Management Specialist for the Warren County Fish Hatchery in Warrensburg, NY. This is specialized work in fish management, maintenance and care of a hatchery and the fish stocking program. This position requires the operation of a trout hatchery including; determining egg requirements to meet the needs of the stocking program, supervise the care and feeding of salmonids at all life stages, monitor water flow and quality, identify and treat fish diseases, perform periodic inventories of fish stocks, prepare food orders and assure proper feeding rates, execute fish stocking according to a state permit, train and supervise staff, keep accurate records, prepare reports, attend public meetings and conduct tours of the facility.  Authority to fill this job vacancy is pending approval of the Board of Supervisors. The work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation. Effectively works as an individual or as a member of a crew and coordinates efforts with other employees as appropriate. The position may require working some holidays and weekend days. Must be a resident of Warren or a contiguous county at the time of permanent appointment. Does other work as required.
     
    SALARY $66,386 (2026 Base Salary)
     
    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Good knowledge of administration as it pertains to outdoor recreation facilities. Knowledge of planning and a background in environmental science. The ability to work with groups and various public agencies, interacting and communicating with people, the ability to speak before a group and a good understanding of budgets. Sound professional judgment and good organizational skills.
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Associate's degree in natural history, fisheries or wild life management, zoology or biology or related field and two (2) years of experience in a fish management, research or propagation program, wild life management, habitat maintenance, or other relevant experience; or
    2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of responsible specialized technical experience in fish management, research or propagation programs, wild life management, habitat maintenance, or other relevant experience; or
    3. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined within the limits of (A) and (B) above.
