• Get Out of Hibernation

Feel like you are spending too much time indoors? Get up and out…bears hibernate, humans don’t need to!

It is all too common.  The light changes, our sleep cycle is altered, we tend to stay indoors more, eat more, sleep more and cook and bake far too much!  According to the National Sleep Association, our bodies tend to produce more melatonin during the winter months and it is activated during the dark.  With sunrise at 7:15 and sunset at 4:15, we all suffer from some form of change during the winter months.  We also tend to become more depressed during this time of year, many professionals will label patients as having Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Don’t let this winter overcome you- take control!  Concentrate on eating healthy food and experts suggest that you focus on foods with Vitamin D.  Exercise regularly, visit with friends, take a class to learn something new, and focus on activities that make you happy.

We are so fortunate to live in an area rich with activities all year, and many during the long winter months that residents tend to forget about.  Here are some best bets for you to get up, get out, and get busy!  Don’t forget to bring a friend and your camera so that you can post on social media and brag all about the cool things you are doing while everyone else is hiding indoors.
