    Comfort Food Community (CFC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports individuals and communities by providing access to fresh, wholesome food in Washington, Warren, and Saratoga counties.

    The Development Manager position is a mission-driven, movement-building position dedicated to engaging individuals and businesses in the goals of CFC work to ensure funding for continued growth. The Development Manager will join an innovative team and contribute to ambitious fundraising efforts.

    Reports to: Executive Director
    Employee Type: Full Time, with benefits
    Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000

    Position Description: Working in partnership with the Executive Director, appropriate staff members, the Board of Directors, and the Fundraising Committee, the development manager is responsible for developing and executing annual fundraising plans to support the mission, programs, and operations of Comfort Food Community. By building relationships with individuals, businesses and corporations, foundations, and community groups, the DM will provide sustainable financial support for the work of CFC. The DM oversees database management and the development and execution of the CFC fundraising process. Working with the Staff and the Board, the DM will plan, organize, manage, and evaluate fundraising activities focusing on new opportunities and major donors. The DM will support and facilitate the development of corporate and individual donor relationships and community outreach for the board and staff members.

    Primary Roles and Responsibilities
    Solicitation
    Individual:
    • Plan, execute, and evaluate the annual operating fund campaign to include established events (Give Hunger the Boot and Harvest Campaign) using direct mail, email, digital and print media, community engagement events, and other outreach formats in collaboration with the Community Engagement Manager.
    • Work with the Board and staff to strengthen relationships with core donors and engage new donors.
    • Plan and execute point-of-entry events for donor introduction and future solicitation.
    • Meet or facilitate meetings with prospective donors and supporters.
    • Draft and execute all donor acknowledgments, including facilitating timely donor acknowledgment by Board Members and staff.
    • Provide stewardship of current and major donors.

    Business/Corporate/Community organizations:
    • In partnership with the Community Outreach staff, help maintain current business/corporate relationships and research and cultivate new relationships.
    • Help develop a corporate giving program and sponsorship guidelines
    • Make public appearances, including speaking engagements, to share information about Comfort Food Community with the community organizations.
    • Build relationships for joint fundraising projects.

    Administration
    Donor Database:
    • Oversee maintenance, currency, and integrity of donor information.
    • Develop reports and queries to maximize database information.
    • Develop and maintain operating policies and procedures for the database to include information details and formats.
    • Work with the Board and fundraising committee to develop regular reporting of donation information.
    • Work with the bookkeeper to reconcile database entries with financial reports.

    General
    • Ensure compliance with the NYS Attorney General Charity Bureau and U.S. Internal Revenue Service rules and regulations.
    • Work with Community Engagement Manager on campaign and community events.
    • Participate in the creation of publications to support fundraising activities.

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred field of studies includes communications, marketing, business, or another related field
    • Two to four years of experience in the field of nonprofit fundraising, including annual fund campaigns and individual donor stewardship
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability to work independently and be an integral part of a team, including people from all backgrounds with varying degrees of experience
    • Experience with or understanding of annual fund campaigns and individual donor work
    • Detail-oriented, concerned with data integrity and accuracy
    • Prior experience and comfort in producing a wide range of reports and queries
    • Experience planning and coordinating events
    • Experience in database management, including reports production, queries, gift processing, and donor relations
    • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Adobe, including maximizing the use and capabilities of the programs/systems

    Work Environment
    • Office hours are generally Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some remote work is possible. Some weekends and evenings.
    • Must have own transportation, valid driver’s license, and insurance.
    • Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed.
