    Legal Clerk

    The Warren County Public Defender’s Office is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Legal Clerk.  This position is responsible for performing a variety of clerical assignments in a municipal legal services office.  Duties include reviewing, processing, indexing, digitizing and filing various legal documents while utilizing computer programs and databases.  The clerk is expected to independently perform duties in accordance with a prescribed set of office policies and procedures.  Supervisors are available for consultation and to provide instruction on new or difficult assignments.  Work is performed under the general supervision of higher-level support staff, and the Legal Clerk reports directly to the Public Defender or First Assistant Public Defender.
     
    TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
    • Processes, indexes, and scans confidential legal records and files;
    • Performs general clerical support functions;
    • Prepares legal documents and correspondence;
    • Files legal papers in court clerks’ offices and serves papers on interested parties;
    • Answers telephone calls;
    • Downloads and sorts electronic discovery files pertaining to current clients’ cases;
    • Utilizes MS Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Outlook calendars, interoffice email, and case management database software to perform work assignments; and
    • Acts as receptionist when necessary.
    SALARY:  $42,126
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
    1. Associate’s Degree or higher; or
    2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and 2 years of full time, paid clerical experience which included use of computer applications and automated systems as a major job function.
    RESIDENCY:  At the time of appointment, the candidate must be either a (1) resident of Warren County, or (2) resident of a county adjoining Warren County.
     
    The position will be filled based upon Civil Service requirements.  A provisional appointment will be made with an exam to be held at a later date.  Candidate must meet Civil Service requirements for appointment following the establishment of the Eligible List.
