The C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital encourages individuals to “STRAND” up for breast cancer on May 14th.

Help Support Efforts to Revitalize City Parks

Two of the Region’s Longest-Tenured CPA Fims Have Merged

Two of the region’s longest-tenured certified public accounting firms have merged. ROSS RIGBY & PATTEN LLP, a 67-year-old Queensbury-based firm, and Latham-based Marvin and Company, P.C., a firm whose roots extend back to 1923, announced the merger effective today. The combined firm will operate as Marvin and Company with offices in both locations and a combined total of 56 employees, including 25 CPAs.

The merger provides Marvin and Company with new growth opportunities in the North Country, and enables ROSS RIGBY & PATTEN to continue to provide high-quality and timely services to its steadily growing client base. Clients of the new firm will have access to a broader array of expertise and services in accounting, auditing, taxation, management consulting and employee pension and benefit planning and administration as a result of the merger. Downtown Glens Falls Parking Initiative Begins May 1st

Glens Falls Mayor Jack Diamond announced an enhancement for Green Parking permit holders that will encourage them to park their vehicles on the fringe of downtown, leaving parking spaces in the city lots available for customers and clients of downtown businesses.

Green Parking permit holders may park on both sides of Hudson Avenue between School and Glen streets beginning Tuesday, May 1st and continuing through September 4, 2012. These spaces will be available on a first-come-first-served basis and permit holders may park in these designated spots for unlimited amounts of time. ARCC’s Network for Enterprising Women Presents Cybersecurity Program

The Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce (ARCC) Network for Enterprising Women (N.E.W.) will present “Cybersecurity: How to Protect Yourself and Your Business” at its monthly luncheon on Tuesday, May 1 2012, 11:45am – 1:00pm at the West Side Grille at West Mountain, 59 West Mountain Road, Queensbury.

Presented by Kathleen Kelleher, Glens Falls National Bank & Trust Co., the program will address simple security measures that can lessen the likelihood of losing of your identity or your bank account to cyber criminals, who are waiting for you to make the wrong “click”.

U.S. Chamber Awards Regent Scholarship to ARCC’s Marcantonio

Institute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, announced that John Marcantonio, membership manager of the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce (ARCC) has been awarded a Regent Scholarship. Given to 102 professionals across the country, Regent Scholarships recognize each recipient for their involvement in industry professional organizations, community service, and professional background.

Glens Falls Hospital Cancer Day Golf Tourney Set for July 6th

Glens Falls Hospital will be hosting the Cindy & Skeets GFH Cancer Day Golf Tournament on Friday, July 6, 2012, at Glens Falls Country Club. The tournament format will be a scramble with two shotgun starts beginning at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

September 8th LocalFest at the Shirt Factory – a celebration of Stuff Made Here

LocalFest is a celebration of all things locally made. The inaugural event, scheduled for Saturday, September 8, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will take place at the historic Shirt Factory at the corner of Lawrence and Cooper Streets in Glens Falls, New York. The building was once home to the McMullen-Leavens Company, one of the nation’s greatest shirt and dress manufacturers. Today the building continues this tradition of artistry and excellence by providing a home to more than 70 artists and artisans, shops and creative and healing services.
