Little Things Mean a Lot

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

(from L): Donna Seymour, Linda Smith, Rick Van Lint

There is a great deal of truth in Kitty Kallen’s 1954 hit, “Little Things Mean a Lot“, as was demonstrated yesterday by two of our benevolent Chamber members.

Allow me to set the stage. The Chamber held its monthly networking luncheon yesterday at Sweet Basil in Queensbury (delicious, fresh food by the way – thank you, J.J. and crew!) The tradition at Chamber networking luncheons is to randomly select individuals by luck of the draw, and invite them to the podium to give a brief “commercial” about themselves and their company.

Typically, luncheon attendees share a few words about the nature of their business, noting specialties and unique offerings, often describing ‘who’ would most benefit from their products or services. Yesterday, we had the privilege to hear from Linda Smith, Annual Giving Communications Coordinator at the Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne. For those not familiar, Double H is a summer camp for children with life-threatening illnesses — and as you can surmise, is very near-n-dear to the hearts of  many. Linda shared that the first step to sponsoring a child for his or her morning at camp is $125.

When Donna Seymour, Business Development Representative at Stewart Title Insurance Company, Capital District was called to the podium, she used her minute to pitch by proclaiming, “I’m in! I’m going to sponsor a child for a morning at Double H. Who wants to split it with me?”

Rick Van Lint, President of Express Computer Restore in Hudson Falls was quick to volunteer. In just 60 seconds, these two individuals changed the outlook of a child, who would otherwise not be attending summer camp. Because of their generosity, a child will enjoy a morning at Double H, free from the fears and worries they are shackled with on a daily basis.

LEARN MORE about how you can sponsor a child’s morning at camp, call them at 518-696-5676, or stop by the Ranch at 97 Hidden Valley Road in Lake Luzerne.

It only takes a minute to change a child’s life.
…gotta minute?
