The Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce (ARCC) announced its 23rd J. Walter Juckett Community Service Award will be presented to Glens Falls Regional President of NBT Bank Dan Burke, at the 98th Annual J. Walter Juckett Awards Banquet & United Way Auction on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Glens Falls Civic Center Heritage Hall in downtown Glens Falls.
Burke, who has been the Glens Falls Regional President of NBT since June 2007, has 25 years banking experience, including serving as president and chief executive officer of TD Banknorth New York and its predecessor, Evergreen Bank. Over the years, Burke held several senior-level positions, including executive vice president of retail banking and senior vice president of marketing. Before entering the banking industry, he was a consultant and federal employee in Washington, D.C. for ten years.
“Dan demonstrates a fierce commitment and hands-on dedication to the betterment of our local community,” said ARCC President and CEO Peter Aust. “Through his substantial contributions to the community, he has earned the respect and admiration of his peers. I can think of no one more deserving to receive this prestigious community service award than Dan Burke.”
A resident of Queensbury, Burke holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in economics from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and the University of Delaware, respectively. He is involved in numerous professional and community organizations, including:

J. Walter Juckett BIO: J. Walter Juckett was born on in 1908 in Mittineague, MA, where he spent his childhood years in this central area of Massachusetts. He graduated in 1930 from Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont where he was, and remains, the only individual to graduate from this military college with the highest academic achievement while serving as the Cadet Major.
Upon receiving an engineering degree, Mr. Juckett began his career at the Hurlbut Paper Company, where his father, Frank A. Juckett, served as President. During the depths of the Great Depression in the 1930’s, the Juckett father-son team was enticed to move to Hudson Falls, NY to take over active management of the Sandy Hill Iron and Brass Works. The Jucketts quickly established Sandy Hill’s reputation in the paper industry and in the local community.
J. Walter Juckett had a remarkable business career and was recognized as a major community leader in his adopted home, the Village of Hudson Falls, and the entire region. His leadership and commitment transgressed a wide range of civic, charitable, religious, political, business and educational activities. He was recognized with honors for his work and contributions to the Boy Scouts of America, New York Business Development Corporation, Salvation Army, Norwich University, Presbyterian Church, Hudson Falls Central School and many other organizations. He was a tireless worker for the arts, having served as a director of the Lake George Opera, and a major force in The Hyde Collection Capital Campaign.
He was an active and engaged participant for several years with the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, but first and foremost, J. Walter Juckett will be remembered as a philanthropist and a true gentleman.
