• April Break Staycation Ideas!

The week is slowly approaching.  I’m talking about April break!  For the majority of the school districts, this is happening from April 25th through the 29th

Many take vacations to warmer places, visiting family and friends.  But, if you live in the local Adirondack region, you are lucky enough to have some great destinations in your backyard!

Have you ever had a staycation?  A staycation can be an overnight stay in a place nearby, or even just a day trip or activity.  We have so many options in this area so I thought I would talk about a few.

The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Water Park (518-824-6000) offers a unique option for kids and the young at heart.  The park is over 38,000 square feet and filled with water slides, tunnels, wave pools and plenty of other water adventures.  Many know that the Lodge has a hotel attached for overnight visits, but day passes are available as well.  It’s always 82 degrees inside the park so don’t let a cool Spring day keep you from visiting.  In addition to the water park, there is a spa and also Johnny Rockets for a quick bite to eat.  It’s easy to make a day out of it!

So if you love the Adirondacks and are looking for some outdoor fun, The Adirondack Extreme Adventure Course (518-494-7200) will be a necessary stop on your list.  There are six courses for adults with over 130 obstacles to do. Participants will have a chance to try Tarzan swings, cable bridges and even do some zip lining.   Children 7 and up can try the kid’s course and there is a playground as well.  Starting in May the courses are open daily but in April they are just open on the weekends so plan accordingly.

Now if you are like me and maybe just want a more low key activity, you must visit The Creative Chameleon (518-409-9467).  This fun place is located inside the Shirt Factory (518-907-4478) in downtown Glens Falls.  I love an activity that actually has an end result and something to take home.  The Creative Chameleon will make the whole family feel like artists for the day.  The shop offers plaster pieces in a variety of shapes (all are very reasonably priced too) and visitors can paint them and take them home.  They provide the paint, the smocks and do the clean up as well.  I love that this is something you can do with a friend, kids, adults, co-workers, anyone!

And finally, this last option is just for the 21 and older crowd.  The Hoppy Trails Brew Bus (518-361-3087) is your ticket to a fun afternoon or evening out.  Different tour packages are offered and the bus will visit a variety of breweries and distilleries in the Adirondack region.  The packages include a tour of each location, samples and snacks along the way.  In addition to the packages listed on their website, the bus is available for private tours as well.  Sounds like a fun way to gather with friends and family if you ask me!

As always, if you're looking for other ideas, make sure to check out GlensFallsRegion.com's events page to see what's happening throughout the region.

Well there you have it; those were my picks for staycation ideas for April break, and beyond.  I hope you enjoy one of these spots on your next adventure!
