2008 Golf Leagues Seeking New Players 5/1/2008 - 9/30/2008
All Leagues are 9 holes unless otherwise indicated. Couples League called "Club 40" Sunday evenings, team consists of 1 man + 1 woman. They will shotgun start at 4:45pm. Fun, fun, usually all done by 12:45 or 1pm. Open to the public, 9 holes w/cart special price of $20. + $10 goes in prize fund. Draws a huge crowd, "A" players are captains and the rest of the teams are picked from a hat in front of everyone. You are not committed to every week but many come every week. They pay skins & winning teams 1st, 2nd and so on depending on number of players. It's fun. Women's League - Weds. Dedicated to celebrating American composers of the past and present, this year's festival will take place 8 Monday Evenings at 8 pm on center stage in Luzerne's newly expanded and renovated Performance Lodge. Performers include: the Luzerne Trio (July 7); Skidmore's Joel Brown & Anthony Holland (July 14); Luzerne's Resident Chamber Players (July 21); Matt Herskowitz Trio (July 28); the Luzerne Chamber Players (August 4); Biava String Quartet (August 11); the Luzerne Chamber Players (August 18); and Red Violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn (August 25). American composers celebrated include: Charles Martin Loeffler; William Grant Still; Anthony Holland; Gunther Schuller; George Rochberg; George Gershwin; David Brubeck; Eric Ewazen; George Crumb; Paul Schoenfield; and Amy Beach. Summer 2008 will also include a Gala Benefit by internationally renowned solo violinist MIDORI, on July 15th at 8 pm (see other events listings), and a special NEA-sponsored residency & appearance by American composer George Crumb with Juilliard's Biava String Quartet, in the performance of "Black Angels" for electric string quartet (August 11).
